Moving Out of the Country

Our investments, anyway. With the dollar dropping and the economy on life support, the investment gurus are whispering about taking our money out of the US stock market. Anybody have an experience or advice about foreign stock portfolios? Which one, the EU, China, or India, do you think will put the clothesline on us?

Perhaps the answer lies in last night's dream: I dreamt we had two more Boston Terriers named Lemmy and Faye (after the musician "Warren Hayes," I'm guessing, since the poetry editor and I were discussing the merits of a certain poem, "Warren Hayes," among others, for the Winter Issue yesterday). Need to buy stock of companies with the name "Lemmy" or "Faye" in them. Or invest in Warren Hayes records. Gold Warren Hayes records, that is. Ah, moving on up to the east side...

I've been shopping for an Asian mutual fund -- I'll let you know what I find. Seems like decisions made in Beijing over the next few years could affect the US economy as much as decisions made in Washington. The Chinese insisted the other day they're not ready to float their currency. So much for lowering our trade deficit. They also seem to be shifting away from buying Treasury bonds. That's great. We got 500 billion or so in bonds to sell this year and nobody's eager to buy. Welcome to the reality-based community.

So no more 90's style increase in productivity numbers, interest rates headed north and (hopefully) no more Greenspan lies about "there is no housing bubble" (gee, what do we expect Greenspan to say right before the election?) I'm looking forward to the look of shock on the exurbanites' faces when the value of their overpriced houses plummet. Maybe then they'll take those ridiculous W stickers off their SUV's. Nah. Once a sheep...

Ah, I knew you would have some advice. Come up this weekend; I'll buy you a beer and we can talk about it. At the very least, a toast to the new MSL champions, DC United! Figures the year K and I don't go to any games they put it all together. I guess Ray Hudson was a pretty bad coach, huh?
