The Stomach of a Women's Heart
I'm feeling uncomfortably full as I write this. I guess that love really does hurt. Saturday night I took K to Martick's, a little French bistro, for Valentine's dinner. She had the beef burgundy, I the blackened salmon. We split a bottle of Pinot Noir and peach bread pudding. I was surprised Sunday morning by K with breakfast in bed—an omelet souffle with aspargras, gruyere, and carmelized onions and fresh fruit. Well, not really surprised, since I listened to her wrestling with the blender for a good half hour. This evening, we made a seafood lasagne with shrimp and crabmeat mixed with feta and mozzarella. It was heavenly, but so rich we could only have a piece each. Since there are six pieces left, we'll eat have two lunches and one dinner of leftovers. There is much to look forward to.
Oh, and did I mention the pound box of hand-picked chocolates? Mostly dark, many nuts. Many days of bliss. Who says that the way to a women's heart isn't through her stomach?

One of the ways to my heart is through my stomach, too. Luckily for Rob, with his delicious cooking, my stomach is getting bigger and bigger . . . and the way to my heart that much wider.
Rock on, that sounds marvelous. What a great weekend of valentines and culinary delight!
I'm just bitter. Not only has there been a lack of valentines pageantry but I am even missing a fun party at work in the afternoon (can you say rock, paper, scissors competition and margaritas, er, that I couldn't drink anyway, ha. I was feeling lucky too! ROCK! Ha...) so I can go to the eye doctor, then I'm stopping by my parents' place because the eye doctor always dilates my pupils. Yep, total loser valentines day, I must say...
But regardless, I'm glad to hear that others who are in relationships are having a nice valentines!
You are so lucky ! My gf is very fussy and only likes plain food. Sounds wonderful.
LLB, sorry to hear that. I bet this time next year you'll be deep in a romance--it happened to two of my friends who were single last year.
David, we have to have each other other for dinner sometime. That said, we've got plenty of leftover lasagna if you want any this week!
Anon, to be honest, I would have been happy even if we went to the KMart cafeteria--it was the time we spent together that was really nice. However, because we eat mostly low-fat, flavorless food at home, it was heavenly to taste BUTTER in one's meals!
That omelet sounds delicious. And peach bread pudding? Whoa.
"David, we have to have each other other for dinner sometime."
Watch out, David, if she cannibalizes you first, you won't have a chance to have her over for dinner afterwards. It's a trick.
You'd better watch out, my pretty, or when you come visit us I'll have you over for dinner with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Or maybe you're more of a dessert girl?
Oh, you know, I'm made of sugar and spice and everything sliced.
