Yeah, I've seen this. It is weird. My roomie and I have discussed it though... just from the standpoint that we live near the Pentagon. I ended up down there on Sept. 11, by sheer dumb luck (was on my way to work late and got stuck in the post-crash traffic, thought in my morning daze, "hm, that looks like the Pentagon is on fire" and then took the exit by the Pentagon to try to get into Maryland, which of course was blocked off, so I ended up parking wandering around on foot down there to see what was going on, one of my more brilliant moments in life).
So I was wandering around down there, and people were running by and yelling, like, "The Pentagon's just been bombed!" and then another guy did say, "A plane hit the Pentagon!"
Since I didn't see it happen, I didn't have any proof, though I will say, when they turned all of us to go south down 395N to evacuate the area (one of the weirdest things I've ever seen, the cops were totally unhinged, screaming at everybody to turn their cars around, which was a clusterfuck if I've ever seen one, like bumper cars), I lit a cigarette and was shaking so hard I kept missing my mouth and hitting my face with the filter. Because I turned around on that exit ramp, I was able to travel fairly easily southbound on the shoulder.
Anyway, someone my roomie knew was on 395 when it happened, and said he saw the landing gear of the plane so close that he thought it was going to rip off the tops of cars. That's pretty much the only eye witness account I heard. Had I left for work on time, I can guarantee I would have seen it.
Whoops, that long-ass, pointless comment was from me. I don't know why the anonymous button was pushed. I sense a conspiracy! ;)
Oh yeah, that long-ass pointless comment also should have mentioned, I didn't see any wreckage. Just smoke and stink -- I guess fire, but it's funny, I don't remember anymore.
The sister of one of my best friends works at the Pentagon fairly often. She doesn't work for or in the Pentagon, but she represents some mobile phone company that has contracts there, so she goes down there to service her contracts. She was there on September 11th and also told me that she saw the 757 hit the building as she was on her way into the area. However, I don't know that she is the most reliable witness, either. She may just want the attention.
