Indie Survivor

I really do not like the band the Postal Service. I similarly don't like the Killers, Franz Fernindad, or the Secret Machines. I probably won't buy the next Death Cab for Cutie album (its major-label debut), and we stopped attending Sleater-Kinney concerts years ago. Does this mean I get voted out of the inner circle now?

You know, I think Death Cab for Cutie is actually one hell of a great band name. However, I can't say that I've heard their stuff. Is it good (before the major label debut, of course)?

What I have heard of the Postal Service I didn't dig very much. And I don't know, I haven't heard much of the Killers except that one hit song, but shit, it didn't sound even remotely befitting a band called the Killers.

Check out Liars (album: They Were Wrong So We Drowned), if you get the chance. Please. ;) Not only is it a concept album about witches, but the mainstream music press savaged it in their reviews, calling it "unlistenable," although a Salon article pointed out that the real problem was, Liars completely diverged from their pre-breakout album. I loved it.

I just discovered Interpol, and really like them so far.

You're not voted out of the inner circle. I think maybe these days, none of us would want to be in the inner circle. Just feel good that you are part of the original inner circle. :)

Yes.

In other news, does "Death Cab for Cutie" mean anything specific in the wider world, or did they take their name from the opening line of the Culture Club classic "Crime Time"?

I traded in loads of my old CD's the other day and SK's "Call the Doctor" was among them. I bought some, ahem, relaxing music in exchange.

I'm so far out of the inner circle the hipsters couldn't see my smoke signals of middle-aged distress even with a Hubble telescope pressed up to their horned-rimmed glasses... Or do they not wear those anymore?

Oh, and the Killers really, really suck.

Alyce: you are too late to save me! I am selling a lot of concert shirts on E-bay as we speak: (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8151243098&ssPageName=ADME:B:LC:US:1). DCFC are pretty good as far as depressing bands go, although they are often lumped in with emo. The Postal Service is an offshoot of them. I bought the first Interpol and liked it, but the second sounds just like the first!

David, not that I know of. I also like the name "And They Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead." My band will be named Weezie, Tootie, or Charlotte Rae.

Kevin, I'm right with ya. Have you listend to the band Songs: Ohia yet? Kind of a cross between Neil Young and Sufjan Stevens. I also have downloaded Damien Jurado recently.

I feel guilty for taking so long with my last story. I had to post a comment here, completely unrelated to the topic at hand. I am editting it as I write this, or rather, before and after this. Apologies for the delay. I am bad and I should be kicked in the behind. It will get done very soon!

Selling the tee-shirts on eBay! Oh no! ;) I still have a very old Siouxsie Sioux tee-shirt, vintage 1985 or so, that at times I still wear as a top for pajamas, which is a scary sight indeed (but seeing how no one sees me when I'm going to bed, it's all okay!) Actually, I had to wear it outside for a fire alarm once, when there was a choice between changing clothes and saving the cats, so I helped save the cats. (If there is ever a real fire, Lynn and I will both burn as we try to capture them and shove them in the carrier.) Everyone outside panicked at the horror of it all. hahaha.

Great, Interpol is like the Strokes with the albums that are impossible to tell apart???? And, I have one And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead album, which I do like, but never got much further than that with them. Though it is an awesome name.

Sorry, I'm a long commenter, apparently. Jesus. Carry on. ;)
